When to consider this format
Compare a rolling arrangement when the work moves between positions. Describe the surface and route as carefully as the work height; mobility is part of the complete configuration.
| Selection factor | Rolling arrangement | Stationary arrangement |
|---|---|---|
| Work pattern | Discuss repeated repositioning between tasks. | Discuss a fixed work position. |
| Support | Match caster, leg, brake and stabilization details. | Confirm the specified base and support arrangement. |
| Surface | Describe joints, slopes, obstructions and route changes. | Describe support conditions at the work position. |
| Movement | Review system instructions and applicable mobile requirements. | Do not assume a fixed setup can accept casters. |
Assess the route and surface
Record floor conditions, joints, ramps, obstructions and changes in level. Confirm that the intended route and work area suit the selected mobile configuration.
Identify the wheel assembly
Wheel diameter is only one detail. Include brake operation, stem or leg dimensions and the exact caster reference. Check the assembly rather than ordering solely by a wheel photo.
Plan movement separately from work
OSHA's mobile scaffold provisions address bracing, locking and movement. Follow the current standard and system instructions; this selection guide does not authorize movement with people aboard.
What to confirm in your quotation
- Overall dimensions, platform position and complete support footprint
- Included frames, braces, decks, rails, access and support components
- Current load information and model-specific instructions
- Quantity, current availability, freight and delivery terms
Quick selection answer
Can any aluminum scaffold be converted to rolling?
Do not assume so. Caster fit, support geometry, bracing and the full configuration need documented review before a change is made.
